Some Tips for Container Gardening:
  • Containers from 3-10 gallons work well and can usually be moved. Container made from of all types of materials can be used as long as drainage and size are sufficient.
  • Use soil less mixes for containers and remember to fertilize on a regular basis.  Mixes with fertilizers included usually need additional fertilizers after 8-10 weeks.
  • Mix plants within containers according to light, water and space requirements.  Some plants don’t play well with others, so they do better as single plants.
  •  Water is the most important growing issues so select plants and containers that fit in size.
  • Experiment with combinations; both within and across seasons.
  • Use the great resources of Clemson’s HGIC website: www.clemson.edu/extension/hgic/
